Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy may be needed to protect the tooth from possible infection. In the past, damaged or diseased teeth often had to be removed. Today they can be preserved through endodontic treatment. Also known as root canal treatment, this procedure can be done by a general dentist or a specialist called an endodontist. More than one visit to the dental office is usually required to perform root canal treatment.

A root canal treatment generally involves removing the pulp (nerve) and replacing it with a filling material. The pulp is a soft tissue that contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue.

If the pulp is damaged by various agents, the most important of which are bacteria, it cannot repair itself, the bacteria and their products infect it and cause pulp necrosis. If root canal treatment is not done in a timely manner, an abscess (infection) can form at the top of the root and cause considerable pain. Even if there is no pain, the bone that secures the tooth to the jaw can be damaged. Without treatment, the tooth may need to be removed.

The endodontic treatment in our clinic is performed by an endodontic specialist doctor with the help of modern devices for the root canal’s mechanical treatment
