A prosthesis is an artificial substitute (made of inhuman material) for a missing part of the body. In the dental field we talk about dental prostheses in case of replacement of missing teeth, which are divided into:
- Dental crowns
- Dental bridges
- Partial prostheses
- Total prosthesis
Absences in the dental arch or destroyed teeth compromise the masticatory function of the stomatognathic system. Absences in the anterior area of the mouth are totally unsightly and affect not only speech but also the patient’s self-esteem. The purpose of the prosthetic treatment includes, among other things, the restoration of normalcy of:
- Chewing
- Aesthetics
- Phonetics / Articulation
